History
In August 1973, PD 269 was promulgated creating the National Electrification Administration (NEA) giving it the responsibility a nationwide program of rural electrification through electric cooperatives and the power to organize, register, supervise and finance electric cooperatives. SORECO I was organized as an electric cooperative in January 17, 1973. By laws and Articles of Incorporation was adopted in a ceremonies held at the Holy Spirit Academy, Irosin, Sorsogon.
The event was officiated by NEA Deputy Administrator Eliseo G. Tirona, also in attendance were Gov. Juan G. Frivaldo and other municipal officials with the Coop interim board headed by the first Board President Engr. Admirado Luzuriaga, Atty. Mayorico F. Gallanosa as Vice President, Rev. Fr. Salvador R. Albuero as Secretary, Macario C. Demate as Treasurer, Valerio C. Gamis, Jose E. Torella, Sindulfo R. Realo and Jose G. Ortiz as members. Eventually on July 28, 1973 the SORECO I Board elected and installed Medardo G. Futalan, Sr. as General Manager.
In Feb. 15, 1973, initial P14.4 million loan agreement was signed by and between the NEA and SORECO I represented by Gen. Ceferino S. Carreon and Engr. Admirado G. Luzuriaga, respectively.
The initial phase of construction of backbone lines, the take over of private electric plants and the construction of the ad interim plant in Sta. Teresita, Bulan started the initial stage of operation of the Cooperative.
The year 1977 was the bright year for SORECO I when its distribution line was tapped to the multi-ground NPC 5 MVA sub-station at Sta. Teresita. The municipality of Bulan was first to be energized on May 11, 1977 followed by Matnog, May 28, 1977, Irosin on June 6, 1977, Sta.
